HAIR REMOVAL FAQs
Laser Hair Removal FAQS
How does laser hair removal remove hair?
The laser emits a beam of light that is attracted to the pigment or melanin in the hair follicle that is in an active growing cycle. Pre-determined pulse duration and energy settings are directed at and absorbed by the hair follicles, disabling the growth of the follicles, resulting in quick, safe, and effective hair removal.
What type of laser do you use for hair removal?
At Kallista Laser we use GentleMax Pro, which combines both the wavelengths of the Alexandrite, and ND-Yag lasers. Our premier hair removal laser provides quick, comfortable, safe, and effective treatment. The FDA has cleared the GentleMax Pro. We ensure that our equipment is serviced and updated regularly.
Does skin type or tanned skin make a difference for laser hair removal?
Candela GentleMax Pro has a multi-wavelength system (755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG) and can treat a wider range of clients of all skin types.
What is the advantage of using a laser for hair removal?
Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. The laser uses a wide beam that treats many hairs at once instead of treating hair-by-hair like electrolysis. Because of this, large areas such as your legs, arms, or back can be treated in a short period of time. You will see results that last far longer than tweezing, waxing, shaving, chemical depilation, or other temporary methods.
What does the laser hair removal treatment feel like?
The treatment does have a slight prickly or stinging sensation. Most of our clients are able to tolerate the treatment without difficulty. Our laser utilizes a special patented cooling system that lowers the temperature of the skin at the procedure site before, during, and after laser exposure. No local anesthesia or pain medication is required, but for more sensitive areas, topical anesthetic cream can be used. Kallista Laser does not provide topical anesthetic.
What happens to the skin after laser hair removal treatment?
Reddening of the skin is the desired reaction. The redness usually subsides within a few minutes to a few hours and returns to normal. Since the laser is not invasive in any way, no bandages are necessary. You are able to re-apply your make-up, return to work, and continue with your normal daily activities immediately following treatment.
What should I do before my laser hair removal procedure?
You must thoroughly shave your hair preferably the same day of the procedure, but at least within 24 hours of your appointment. Avoid indoor or outdoor tanning and use of self-tanning products for approximately four weeks. Do not wax, tweeze dye hair or have electrolysis two weeks prior to the procedure. Avoid skin care products with irritants such as Glycolic Acid or Retin-A in the procedure area for at least one week.
